First Stop: A journey through the Fribourg Region.

The unspoilt landscapes of the Fribourg Pre-Alps are popular among cross-country skiers and snowshoe hikers alike. Whether alone or with a guide all routes are well signposted and easily accessible, and will lead you through a tranquil, wintry countryside. The Fribourg Region, especially the village of Charmey, is a charming place to visit: romantic little towns, enchanting lakes, snowy slopes and ancient customs that survive to this very day.

Day 1 - Charmey.

My first day in Charmey started the best way possible – with some great sled dogs and surrounded by snow-covered mountains. I even had the opportunity to steer the sled myself, which was really like in a fairy tale! After lunch at the hotel, I took the cable car up to the Moléson to spend some time on the summit. I stayed up there to shoot the sunset. The 360° view of Fribourg Region was incredible. The golden sunlight lent an amazing atmosphere to the mountains, with Lake Geneva in the distance.

Day 2 - Fribourg.

On my second day, I set off on a cultural and gastronomical journey of the region. I started by visiting the picturesque town of La Gruyère, with its typical medieval houses, and 13th century castle perched on the top of a hill. I then passed by the famous Maison Cailler chocolate factory in Broc. I found out all about the history of chocolate and the factory on an interactive guided tour, which was rounded off by some tasting of Cailler chocolate! The afternoon was devoted to snow-shoeing. In the company of a local guide, we went up to Chalet du Soldat, a hut located at the foot of the Gastlosen mountain range that boasts incredible views of Fribourg’s highest peaks. The snow-shoe hike was pretty easy, and it was a great feeling to trek through forests surrounded by the Gastlosen.

Second Stop: Around Lake Geneva Region.

Situated at 1,300m, on a sunny south-facing terrace high above the Rhone Valley, the holiday resort of Villars-sur-Ollon sits in the heart of the Vaud Alps. It offers breath-taking views of the Dents-du-Midi and the Mont Blanc massif and as far as Lake Geneva.

Day 3 - Glacier 3000.

I spent my first morning on a tour of Villars-sur-Ollon. I got up early to watch the sun rise above the town, with the Dents-du-Midi in the background. Such stunning winter scenery! I then explored the town and its surroundings on the BVB train. This is a great way to see what the region has to offer – from its Alpine valleys to typical mountain villages. In the afternoon, I set off for the day’s highlight: Glacier 3000 and its Peak Walk, a suspension bridge between two mountain peaks. I stayed there for the sunset, which was a truly incredible experience. The panoramic views of the mountains and the feeling of walking on air make the Peak Walk a real must-do for anyone visiting the region.

Day 4 - Villars-sur-Ollon.

My second day was all about winter activities in Villars. I spent my morning hitting the pistes. Fresh snow from the previous week made it a great feeling to ski down the slopes while enjoying the scenic views. In the afternoon, I went paragliding for the first time in winter, which I must confess was the absolute highlight of this winter stay. Starting out from Grand Chamossaire at 2,120m, I felt like a bird as I glided through the air! The great sense of freedom and lightness made it an unforgettable experience.
